Playful Possibilities: “Crochet Performance” is a mixed-media live performance piece exploring movement in the human body through wearables. The skirt is hand crocheted by the artist. Contrasting themes of female repression through historical and contemporary garments, with the idea of childlike play and exaggerated movement. The idea of how certain garments can physically distort and limit movement in the body was explored through frantic and rapid movements that are nonetheless still restricted. The stark white outfit implies the need for it to stay clean. The artist invites the viewer to consider ideas of self and societally imposed tightness, control, and cleanliness that so often have limited many women’s ability to uncontrolled play.
